(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Retired Army General Dennis J-Reimer was named today as the first director of the Oklahoma City National Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism.
The 60-year-old Reimer retired last summer after 37 years of active service. He spent the last four as Army chief of staff, which made him a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
The Medford native and West Point graduate served two tours of duty in Vietnam and had several commands, including the Third Corps Artillery at Fort Sill from January 1984 to May 1986. He was Army deputy chief of staff for operations and plans during the Persian Gulf War.
Reimer says he's working to assemble a staff and expects to announce the appointment of a deputy in the next several days.
