Carnegie Shooting

(Carnegie-AP) -- A 36-year-old Carnegie woman has been shot and killed by a Carnegie police officer. Carmen Ybarra allegedly attacked police Officer Russell "Rusty" Williams with a hoe or a shovel last night.

Kym Koch is a spokeswoman with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation Koch says police were called about an argument going on between a man and the victim's sister in the front yard of a Carnegie house.

Williams reportedly sent the victim's sister next door so he could talk to the man when the victim approached. Koch says the officer was trying to arrest Ybarra when she broke free and grabbed a sharp, shovel-like implement.

Koch says witnesses report that Ybarra advanced toward Williams with the shovel raised above her head.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting at the request of the Carnegie police.

Pottawatomie Escapee

(Shawnee-AP) -- Authorities are cautioning people in Pottawatomie County to be on the alert for an escaped inmate. Thirty-four-year-old Billy Hicks escaped from the Pottawatomie County jail last night after picking a lock with a piece of metal. They say he locked a jailer in a closet and got a jump on investigators.

Authorities believe Hicks is extremely dangerous and cunning. The search geared back up at daylight. Authorities say wet conditions are hampering their search.

This is not the first time Hicks has escaped. Hicks reportedly escaped last year by tying bed sheets together and going out a window.

Hicks is described as having brown hair, a mustache and a teardrop tattooed under his eye.

(Little Rock, Arkansas-AP) -- An Arkansas man has pleaded innocent to federal charges that he used the names and credit histories of dead people to purchase vehicles.

He is charged with one count of conspiracy, two counts o identity theft and one count of interstate transportation of property taken by fraud.

Garry Don Buchanan of Tulsa, Oklahoma was named as an unindicted conspirator in the indictment.

Authorities say the scheme began when Buchanan tried to buy a used pickup truck from Morford who worked as a car salesman. Buchanan was reportedly turned down for financing.

The two allegedly agreed Buchanan would get information from the file of a dead person from the funeral home where he worked and the data would be used on a credit application for Buchanan.

Tulsa Tourism
