(Oklahoma City-AP) -- Expanded passenger rail service in Texas could be good news for Oklahoma. The Amtrak network reorganization says Fort Worth will become a key hub of the rail service, which will open new opportunities for passengers riding the Heartland Flyer there from Oklahoma City.
John Dougherty is manager of rail properties for the Oklahoma Department of Transportation. He says he expects more people to ride the Heartland Flyer because of the changes to be phased in this summer. He says that could mean more cars and expanded service. The changes will bump the Chicago-to-San Antonio bound Texas Eagle up to daily service, and add a San Antonio-to-Mexico route. Other Texas cities are also getting stops on other expanded Amtrak routes.
