Tulsa Public Schools wonâ€™t be buying out the contract of Superintendent John Thompson.

School Board President Ruth Ann Fate said Friday the board offered Thompson a buyout earlier this month after a committee recommended not renewing his contract.

She said Thompson responded to the offer Thursday, after accepting the superintendent's job in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Fate said the district will not pay Thompson while he's working elsewhere, and a buyout would now be inappropriate.
