(Undated-AP) -- Houston-based Continental Airlines is blaming pricey jet fuel for the second ticket price hike in a month.
Today's move increases the company's base domestic fares from five dollars each way up to 15 dollars on longer trips.
The airline added a fuel surcharge of up to 20 dollars on domestic fares last month. That move spurred a stampede by other airlines to raise prices, including American Airlines and low-cost carrier Southwest Airlines, based in Dallas.
A spokesman for Fort Worth-based American says the carrier is evaluating Continental's move but hasn't made a decision yet.
Southwest did not immediately react to Continental's fare increases.
Chicago-based United Airlines has declined to comment.
