TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- A state senator was injured this morning when she reportedly jumped from a second floor window of her burning home. State Sen. Penny Williams, D-Tulsa, was in fair condition at St. John Medical Center. She was being treated for leg injuries and minor smoke inhalation, hospital officials said.

Fire investigators say the blaze started around 3 a.m. in a garage apartment. They don't know what caused the fire. Williams, who was the only one in the house, jumped from a rear window. She fell about 12 feet and landed on a rock wall, said fire Capt. Hubert Rouse. "She woke up and couldn't use the staircase because of the extreme heat," Rouse said. "The window was her only outlet." Officers found Williams at the rear of the house. She was then taken to the hospital. The house was heavily damaged. Preliminary reports estimate the structural damage at $200,000, Rouse said.
