(Cincinnati-AP) -- Cincinnati city councilmen are taking a poke at baseball commissioner Bud Selig. The council isn't happy that Selig hasn't reversed Pete Rose's lifetime ban from the game. So they're proposing a "Bud Selig exclusion zone," although it woudn't have any legal force.
Selig isn't letting Rose appear at ceremonies this summer honoring the Reds' 1975 World Series championship team. So the city council, in an 8-to-0 vote, has approved a resolution inviting Rose and other members of the team to a June third city celebration honoring them at Cincinnati's Fountain Square.
The resolution says it's unthinkable to honor the 1975 Reds without including Rose. Cincinnati Mayor Charles Luken says he's always wondered whether baseball would treat a New York Yankee the way Rose, who played in one of the game's smaller markets, has been treated.
