The Oklahoma City National Memorial opens in less than 100 days, but there is still plenty of construction work left. The reflecting pool is two thirds completed, and the large gates on both ends are done.
Workers have already laid a flagstone plaza around the "survivor tree" and soon will install a chair for each victim, on a grassy field where the building once stood. "The chairs will begin arriving in about a month and a half, we expect to be installing those chairs as the last component to go in, and we expect to be installing those through the early days of April," said Bob Johnson, Foundation Chairman.
The memorial opens this year, on the 5th anniversary of the bombing, April 19th. A museum will open next to the site sometime next year. The foundation has raised $26 million of the $29 million dollars needed to pay for the memorial.
