(Rutland, Vermont- AP) --- A 12-year-old Springer spaniel has survived a shooting, a 25-mile trek and 17 days in the wilderness to return to its family's home in Vermont.
Bosley disappeared last month while playing with the family's other dog, a one-year-old yellow Labrador named Luke, in and around the woods near their home.
The dogs' owner, Scott Switzer, says "Poor Bosley, stone deaf, couldn't follow the other dog."
Switzer said the family made fliers, bought advertising in newspapers and spread news of Bosley's disappearance as much as they could. But no one returned him.
This month, the Stockbridge dogcatcher called to say she had found Bosley wandering along a state road.
Switzer says his dog had been hit with buckshot in his back and stomach and had lost a lot of weight, but otherwise was healthy.
