General Electric is working with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission to voluntarily recall 3.1 million GE and Hotpoint brand dishwashers. The dry-cycle switch, that allows consumers to choose between heat drying and energy saver functions, can melt and catch fire overtime.
There have been 50 fires noted, seven of which spread beyond the dishwashers and there have been no reported injuries. GE is offering a rebate toward the purchase of a new dishwasher. Consumers should stop using the recalled dishwashers immediately.
For immediate assistance, consumers are advised to contact GE at 1-800-599-2929 or visit its web site at http://www.geappliancerecall.com
