OWASSO, Okla. (AP) -- Police found a key piece of evidence this morning in their investigation into the death of an elderly Tulsa woman when they located her car at a motel.
Mary Agnus Bowles' car apparently had been parked at the Oasis Motel in Tulsa for several days, Tulsa police said.
"We're estatic we have this piece of the puzzle," said Maj. Mark Andrus.
The body of the 77-year-old retired banker and community volunteer was found Tuesday beside a rural county road north of Tulsa. The discovery came exactly one week after she was last seen alive leaving a hospital where she volunteered.
The cause of death had not been determined, but police were investigating it as a homicide.
"Investigators believe Ms. Bowles made it safely to her residence after work and went out later in the afternoon to run a quick errand," Sgt. Wayne Allen said Wednesday. "It is during this period of time we believe she became a victim of foul play."
Ms. Bowles was last seen alive about 4 p.m. Aug. 31 leaving St. Francis Hospital, where she worked as a volunteer for 10 years.
"We will miss her gentle spirit. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family," the hospital said in a statement.
An $11,000 reward is being offered for information leading to an arrest in Ms. Bowles' death.
