(Brownsville-AP) -- The National Weather Service says Hurricane Bret seems to be taking aim for Corpus Christi.
Forecasters predict the powerful storm could make landfall there as early as this evening.
Forecasters say Bret -- bearing winds of 135-miles-per-hour -- still presents a threat of heavy rains on Mexico's northernmost Gulf coast.
But they say the danger to Mexico is lessening as the storm moves north.
At 2 a-m Bret was centered about 125 miles southeast of Brownsville.
The storm is expected to slow down as it turns a bit to the northwest.
