CHICAGO (AP) -- Sammy Sosa hit his major-league leading 50th and
51st home runs Saturday, becoming the fourth player to post
consecutive 50-homer seasons.

With two out in the fourth against Colorado's John Thomson, Sosa
hit a 1-2 pitch into the left-field bleachers to pull the Chicago
Cubs within 2-1 of the Rockies.

With two on and one out in the sixth, Sosa smashed a 2-1 pitch
from Thomson into the right field seats to give the Cubs a 5-3
lead.

Sosa, who also hit two homers Friday, now leads Mark McGwire by
three home runs. McGwire did not homer Saturday and has 48 this
season. It was Sosa's 39th career multihomer game and sixth this
year

Sosa, McGwire, Babe Ruth and Ken Griffey Jr. are the only
players with consecutive 50-homer seasons. Sosa had 66 last year.

Sosa is ahead of last year's pace. In 1998, he hit his 50th and
51st homers in the Cubs' 130th game; Saturday was the Cubs' 121st
game.
