(Norman-AP) -- A preliminary hearing is scheduled Tuesday for the alleged hacker accused of compromising the University of Oklahoma's massive Internet capacity.
Twenty-five-year-old Ryan Larry Breding is accused of violating the state's computer crimes act. Breding allegedly linked an illegal web site to OU's system, using up nearly all of the university's Internet space.
It took a year and 25 thousand dollars in training and special equipment for detectives to gather the evidence they needed. Police say it's the first time they've had to deal with a case like this.
The law enforcement officials say hackers and crackers who roam the Internet are no different than the bandits of more than a century ago ruling the lawless West.
