Tulsa has come a long way toward becoming disaster-resistant since the tragic Memorial Day flood in 1984. But there is still a chance of flooding every year, especially in high-risk areas.
So Tulsa Mayor Bill LaFortune has proclaimed March as Flood Insurance Month. He's reminding residents to take a look at their insurance policies to make sure they are covered in floods.
There is usually a 30-day waiting period before coverage goes into effect. Now is the time to make sure you are covered before the heart of storm season.
