It's been nine years in the making, and Wednesday, a memorial for Tulsa officers killed in the line of duty is finally taking shape.
Wednesday, crews installed a statue at the memorial site in north Tulsa. The statue depicts an honor guard member presenting a flag to the child of an officer killed in the line of duty.
Tulsa Police officer Mark Wollmershauser: "39 officers paid the ultimate price and we don't want anyone to forget."
The work isn't over yet; a 650-foot sidewalk will be constructed around the statue. Tulsa Police officers donated $66,000 of their own money for the memorial. The rest of the money was collected through private donations.
