MIDWAY, Ky. (AP) _ All Along, the 1983 Horse of the Year, has been euthanized because of old age. She was 26.
All Along was euthanized Wednesday and buried at Three Chimneys Farm, said Dan Rosenberg, president of the farm.
In 1983, All Along won four major races in three countries in a six-week span _ the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe in France, the Rothmans International Stakes at Woodbine in Canada, the Turf Classic at Belmont Park and the Washington, D.C., International at Laurel Park.
She was honored as that year's champion older horse in France and as the Horse of the Year and champion female turf horse in the United States.
As a 5-year-old in 1984, she ran second to longshot Lashkari in the inaugural Breeders' Cup Turf at Hollywood Park.
The daughter of Targowice, out of Agujita, All Along was the first foreign-based horse to win the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year. She was bred and owned by Daniel Wildenstein and trained by Patrick Biancone.
All Along retired in 1984 as the world's leading money-winning mare with career earnings of $3,018,420, and was voted into the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame in 1990.
