Tulsa Police say a family took matters into their own hands after someone stole their SUV with an elderly relative inside.

Officers say an 83-year-old woman was sitting in a Jeep outside the Gaucho Restaurant at 61st and Sheridan when a man jumped in and took off. Police say the woman tried to get out, but the man pulled her back in. They say some of her family chased the Jeep, and eventually blocked it. Then they held the man until police arrived.

Officers arrested 41-year old James Shaw. Tulsa Police say he tried to hit one of the family members with a claw hammer.

Shaw now faces several charges including kidnapping, auto theft, and assault with a dangerous weapon.
