MIAMI, Okla. (AP) -- The Grand River Dam Authority has reached a $340,000 settlement with the city of Miami to settle an overcharge apparently caused by an accounting error.
The settlement stems from GRDA's use of a city-owned electrical sub-station in Rockdale, a neighborhood in east Miami. GRDA had its own sub-station in Rockdale until 1998, when Miami's Public Utilities Division replaced the sub-station.
Miami's Jim Weaver discovered the error not too long after being hired as public utilities director in 2003. GRDA had not paid the city for use of the sub-station for five years when Weaver found the accounting discrepancy.
The settlement includes $179,000 in lighting equipment and $161,000 in cash to the city.
