OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Freshman Congressman Dan Boren gets a seat on a panel the oversees Indian and federal land policy issues.
A spot on the House Resources Committee will be the second for Boren, who already is assigned to the House Armed Services Committee, which oversees the Defense Department.
Boren's assignments to the panels compensate for the loss of other Oklahoma congressmen on those committees.
Representative Tom Cole had to take a leave of absence from the Armed Services Committee after he was appointed to the Rules Committee. Former Representative Brad Carson, whom Boren succeeded, also had served on the resources committee.
Boren says he's excited about getting to work on the House Resources Committee because it puts him in a unique position to drive economic development in the state.
