OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops says defensive tackle Dusty Dvoracek has been reinstated to the team.
Dvoracek was kicked off the team last fall after violating team rules. He was involved in a fight at a Norman bar in which one of his high school friends was injured and hospitalized.
OU applied for a medical hardship waiver to allow the senior to play another year. The waiver was denied by the Big 12 Conference but the school appealed the ruling to the NCAA, which approved it.
Since his dismissal from the team, Dvoracek has undergone anger-management and alcohol-related counseling.
Stoops said Thursday that Dvoracek has looked for ways to overcome his difficulties and has earned another opportunity with the program.
The Lake Dallas, Texas, senior says he plans to make the most of this opportunity.
