DURHAM, N.C. (AP) -- Oklahoma State's Jordy Mercer was added to the U.S. national baseball team Tuesday.
Mercer plays shortstop and serves as the Cowboys' closer. He hit .299 with five home runs and 24 RBIs as a sophomore last season. The right-hander also went 3-1 with a 3.81 ERA in eleven relief appearances with three saves.
He missed the first 20 games of the season after offseason knee surgery.
Mercer becomes the seventh Oklahoma State player ever named to the U.S. national team and the first since Ryan Budde in 2000.
Other Cowboys to play for the national team are Matt Smith, Brad Beanblossom, Jeromy Burnitz, Robin Ventura and Gary Green.
The team will represent the United States at the Pan Am Games and other tournaments this summer.
