FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) _ A woman trying to stop a motorist from fleeing after a collision was dragged for several miles to her death under the man's minivan, officials said Monday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents later detained Abdelaziz Bilal Hamze, 24, at New York's Kennedy Airport, Broward County Sheriff's spokesman Elliot Cohen said. The U.S. citizen was on a plane bound for Athens, Greece.
Hamze is accused in the dragging death of 44-year-old Sandra Hall. She was in a Cadillac struck by the minivan Sunday night, Broward County sheriff's officials said.
The minivan was driven away with the Cadillac in pursuit, and when both vehicles were stopped in traffic Hall got out and stood in front of the minivan, authorities said.
The minivan struck Hall, who became lodged underneath the moving vehicle, officials said.
Hall, of Fort Lauderdale, was dragged for several miles before she fell from the undercarriage, authorities said. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hamze will be charged with first-degree murder, Cohen said. It was not immediately known whether he had an attorney.
