OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Transportation Commission Monday approved a five-year, $340 million construction plan to improve county roads and bridges across the state. The plan was approved by the 2006 Legislature and will pay for a total of 132 projects statewide. Some 200 miles of roads and 119 bridges are included.
Money for the project will come from increasing the amount of motor vehicle tax revenue for road and bridge projects.
When fully implemented about $85 million is expected to be generated each year. The bulk of the money comes from excise tax on the purchase of new vehicles and from motor-vehicle tags.
County officials say most of the projects included in the plan are too expensive for the county to afford without state help.
