More than a dozen railroad cars derail in downtown Tulsa overnight. The train derailment happened a little after 3 a.m. Monday near 1st and Guthrie. Railroad workers spent most of Monday morning, cleaning up from the incident.
Officials tell the News On 6, 14 Burlington Northern and Santa Fe cars derailed early Monday morning for some unknown reason. Officials say the cars were moving different kinds of cargo and none of them included any hazardous material. Railroad officials believe there was a problem with the rail, and that may be why the cars ran off track. However, they are still trying to determine the exact problem.
Two downtown Tulsa streets, Cheyenne and Guthrie were closed while the Burlington Northern workers moved the rail cars and fixed the railroad tracks.
