Area art students gave the Tulsa International Airport a facelift on Saturday. Students from five high schools used their paintbrushes and creative talent to cover 168 feet of wall with an elaborate mural. The new artwork is part of a plan to update the airport from dull and grey to colorful and welcoming.
"Create sort of color block patterns and bright colors to welcome our visitors, and our guests, to Tulsa in sort of a dramatic way something they won't forget soon," said Ken Busby with the Arts and Humanities Council of Tulsa.
The committee who recruited the students says this is the first of many projects to update the airport. The hope is that the airport will eventually be recognized as a beautiful place.
The students used a special paint that should last 20 years so everyone can enjoy the artwork for years to come.
