SAND SPRINGS, Okla. (AP) -- A worker is airlifted to a Tulsa hospital Wednesday after a trench collapsed on him during work at a high school football field in Sand Springs.
Sand Springs fire officials say the man was working on a drainage system for a new football field when the eight-foot hole caved in, burying the man up to his neck.
Bystanders who saw what happened were able to get some of the dirt off the man before the fire department arrived.
Fire crews were able to shore up the trench, but it took about ten minutes to get the man out.
The victim was airlifted to St. Francis Hospital. Authorities say the man was conscious and responsive, but was airlifted as a precaution.
