OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Governor Brad Henry asks President Bush Friday for a federal disaster declaration that would cover 25 Oklahoma counties hit hard by spring storms earlier this month.
If Henry's request is approved, public entities affected by the tornadoes, flooding and other storms that occurred in Oklahoma from May 4th through 11th could receive assistance for expenses related to response and recovery efforts.
State and federal emergency management officials toured some of the hardest-hit areas last week.
Preliminary estimates indicated $4.8 million in damage to municipalities, counties and rural electric systems.
The counties included in the request are Atoka, Beckham, Blaine, Bryan, Caddo, Canadian, Comanche, Dewey, Ellis, Garfield, Grady, Greer, Hughes, Kay, Kiowa, Lincoln, Logan, McIntosh, Noble, Nowata, Okfuskee, Pottawatomie, Roger Mills, Seminole and Woodward.
