A viewer alerted our Rick Wells to an attraction at the Oklahoma Aquarium in Jenks that's not on the regular program. It’s a diver who puts on an entertaining show for kids, while he's in the tank! The News On 6’s Rick Wells reports the show includes dancing, games and more.
The corral reef tank has all kinds of beautiful and exotic fish, and sometimes there’s even a diver, 17-year-old Bryan Maciha. His job is house cleaning, and fun. On Tuesday when he spotted a little boy and his mom he swam over to the glass for a quick game of rock-paper-scissors, then it was back to work.
Bryan heard the divers at a SeaWorld adventure camp talking about entertaining the kids from inside the tanks, so he thought if he ever got to be a diver he could too.
"I'm a kid myself, might as well have some fun with it," diver Bryan Maciha said.
And he does, he says the youngest kids like to see him make faces and blow them kisses.
"The older they get you can play rock-paper-scissors with 'em, or dance with 'em," said Maciha.
We watched Bryan danced the Macarena, play patty cake and stand on his head.
Bryan started volunteering at the aquarium when he was 15, then he got a part time job. Once he became dive qualified he could get in the water.
"How long you in there for?†asked News On 6 reporter Rick Wells.
"Anywhere from 20 minutes to an hour and a half," responded Maciha.
The dive time depends on how dirty the tank is, and how big the crowd is.
There’s no regular schedule for the tank cleaning shows. But Rick says if you’re there this holiday weekend between 3 and 3:30 in the afternoon, you might get to see a little something extra.
