NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- Omar Leary, who earned junior-college All-America honors last season, signs to play basketball at Oklahoma.
That word today from OU coach Jeff Capel.

The 5-foot-10 Leary averaged 14 points, 6.3 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game as a sophomore point guard for Northeastern Junior College in Colorado.

He led that team to a 34-2 record and a spot in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division One tournament.

Leary signed with Colorado State in November, but Capel says Leary became available again after a coaching change at Colorado State in March resulted in Leary's release from his NCAA letter of intent.

Leary's signing comes about two weeks after Capel announced that Bobby Maze, who had emerged as O-U's starting point guard last season, would not return to the Sooners next season.

Maze's departure had left the Sooners with only one point guard on campus, junior-to-be Austin Johnson.
