DETROIT (AP) _ Pinch-hitter Sean Casey hit a tiebreaking single with 1 out in the 8th inning to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 5-4 win over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night.
Craig Monroe also homered for Detroit and Placido Polanco went 4-5 with 2 RBIs.
Pinch-hitter Carlos Guillen led off the 8th with a walk by Danys Baez (0-1) and was sacrificed to 2nd by Brandon Inge. Curtis Granderson was then walked intentionally. Casey then pinch hit for Neifi Perez and hit a sinking liner that just eluded diving shortstop Miguel Tejada that scored Guillen with the go-ahead run to make it 4-3. Polanco added a run-scoring single.
Reliever Joel Zumaya (1-1) pitched 2 innings for the victory. He struck out 4 and allowed 1 hit.
Todd Jones pitched the 9th for his ninth save in 11 chances.
Tigers starter Chad Durbin only lasted 3 2-3 innings. He allowed 2 runs and 3 hits, but walked 6.
Orioles' starter Adam Loewen gave up 3 runs and 7 hits in 5 innings.
The Orioles tied the game 3-3 in the 7th on Tejada's 1-out RBI single off Zumaya.
The Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning on Melvin Mora's fourth homer of the season to lead off the inning. Ramon Hernandez added an RBI groundout.
Detroit went ahead 3-2 in the 5th. Polanco singled in Ivan Rodriguez, who led off with a double. With two outs, Monroe connected on Loewen's 1-0 pitch for his second home run of the season, which landed in the left-field stands.
Brian Roberts scored on a ground out by Tejada in the 9th to make it 5-4.
