EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Former New York Giants receiver Johnny Perkins has died of complications following heart surgery. He was 54.

Perkins caught 163 passes in a seven-year NFL career spent entirely with the Giants, who selected him in the second round of the 1977 draft. Perkins played in 71 games and had totaled two-thousand, 611 yards receiving with 18 touchdowns before retiring after the 1983 season.
