LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) -- Pitcher Mike Harmelink has left the Nebraska baseball team to address personal matters, coach Mike Anderson said Tuesday.

Harmelink was suspended twice this season for alcohol-related incidents.

"Mike has been given the opportunity to pursue help with personal issues through the University of Nebraska athletic department, and our program will do everything we can to help him," Anderson said.

Harmelink served a three-game suspension early this season after being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Harmelink and pitcher Charlie Shirek were arrested and cited for vandalizing a bicycle on campus Friday. Both were sent to a detox center with blood-alcohol measurements of about twice the .08 legal limit for driving. They were suspended for the weekend series against Texas.

In a statement released through NU's sports information department, Harmelink thanked Anderson, pitching coach Dave Bingham, the staff and teammates for the opportunity to be part of the program.

The senior out of Omaha Creighton Prep had a record of 0-1 with a 3.24 ERA.

Anderson did not announce whether there would be further disciplinary action taken against Shirek.
