OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Tuesday will be Child Abuse Prevention Day at the state Capitol, with a host of activities planned to raise awareness about the issue in Oklahoma.
Events will begin with an 8 a.m. presentation in the governor's conference room, followed by a legislative primer with Anne Roberts of the Oklahoma Institute for Child Advocacy.
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. In 2005, in Oklahoma there were more than 13,300 confirmed cases of child abuse and neglect. During that same year, 40 Oklahoma children died as a result of child abuse and neglect.
