April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month, research shows one in six women and one in every 33 men will be sexually assaulted. DVIS-Call Rape held an open house Thursday night to showcase its facilities, and educate people about the services the agency offers. They have a children's area, a survivor's room and the walls are decorated with poems and artwork created by victims overcoming trauma.

Many groups were represented Thursday, including Bikers Against Child Abuse.

"One of the things we've found in our domestic violence, call rape work over the years is that the more the community is involved, the more people understand what the problems are and how important it is that everyone do their part," said Donna Mathews DVIS/Call Rape Interim Executive Director.

The agency also recognized News On 6 crime reporter Lori Fullbright for her outstanding work in bringing the issues of sexual assault and domestic violence victims to the public.
