State Lawmaker Issues Statement Concerning Arrest

A state lawmaker arrested for driving under the influence over the weekend has issued a statement. State Representative John Trebilcock was arrested Saturday in Tulsa. He represents Broken Arrow in the Oklahoma Legislature.

Statement from Rep. John Trebilcock

"Despite the fact that legal proceedings are ongoing, I want to publicly take responsibility for my actions this past weekend.

Immediately after pulling out of a parking lot, I was pulled over because I had not yet turned on my headlights. The officers on the scene, in their professional opinion, determined that I should not have been driving.

Unquestionably, I should not have put myself in a situation where such a determination should have had to be made. I take full responsibility for doing so. I would like to express my appreciation to the officers on the scene for their professionalism and for the job that they do.

Driving and alcohol don't mix. I am prepared to accept the consequences, legal and otherwise, for my actions.

On a personal note, I want to apologize to the many people I have let down, particularly my family. I am sorry for the embarrassment that my poor decision making has caused."

Trebilcock posted bond and was out of the Tulsa County jail within just a few hours.

In the legislature, Trebilcock co-sponsored a law that cracks down on repeat drunk drivers by requiring an ignition locking device on their cars. It requires the driver to blow into it before their car will start; itâ€™s a kind of breathalyzer that prevents a drunk person from driving.
