COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) _ A school bus crashed into a car driven by a teenager with a learner's permit Tuesday, sending 16 fifth-graders and the bus driver to hospitals with minor injuries, officials said.
The students complained of headaches and other pains but there were no serious injuries, said Karen York, spokeswoman for the school district.
The bus was carrying 41 fifth-graders from E.E. Taylor Elementary School when it crashed at an intersection in Columbia, York said.
The car's driver, Brittney Boykin, 17, was charged with failure to yield right of way and violating a learner's permit, police spokeswoman Lauren Leach said. Boykin was required to have a licensed driver over 21 riding in the car with her.
The students were returning from a fine arts performance at Columbia College, York said.
