OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Authorities say a motorcyclist died when he tried to merge onto Interstate 44 and plummeted off an overpass onto the highway below.

The unidentified man apparently lost control of the vehicle and fell about 20 feet in north Oklahoma City Saturday.

Rena Hill was riding home about 1:40 p.m. with her husband when they saw a body tumble from the bridge above. Hill says it looked like a dummy or a toy had fallen, struck its head on the pavement and then hit the median. Her husband, however, recognized that it was a man.

The victim wasn't struck by other vehicles but the fatal accident forced the closure of eastbound traffic on I-44 and its rerouting onto Lincoln Boulevard.

Oklahoma City Police Sergeant Mark Sexton says the motorcyclist and another motorcycle driver had turned left to get on the on-ramp when the victim ran into a guardrail.
