OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Okeene becomes the first Class A school to win a football and boys basketball championship during the same school year as the Whippets beat Beaver 51-46 in the hoops title game at State Fair Arena.
Okeene finishes 25-1. The Whippets lost by 1-point to Thomas in a regional tournament game, but rebounded to win eight straight games to close the season.
Okeene went 15-0 en route to the Class A football title. The Whippets had never before won a boys basketball title.
Senior Brady Wardlaw, the quarterback on the football team, scored 22 points Saturday and grabbed 9-rebounds for Okeene.
Beaver tied the game at 37-all with 5:31 left but the Dusters didn't score again until 58 seconds remained.
Okeene scored 6-points in the interim and went 8-8 from the free-throw line in the final minute to seal the win.
Josh Malone led the Dusters with 18 points. Beaver closes at 25-5.
