OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- The Oklahoma Senate votes 32-to-0 for a bill making it a crime to leave small children unattended in a motor vehicle.

The Forget-Me-Not Vehicle Safety Act by Senator Susan Paddack of Ada now goes to the state House for consideration.

Her bill would make it illegal to leave a child 6 or younger alone in a car unless another person in the vehicle is at least 12.

A first offense would be a misdemeanor with a fine of at least $50. A second offense would require a fine of at least $100 and 50 hours of community service.

A third or subsequent offense would require a fine of at least $200 and an evaluation by the Department of Human Services.

Anyone who leaves a child alone while drinking inside a bar would face a fine of at least $500.
