OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Oklahoma City native and former New York Yankees outfielder Bobby Murcer is being chosen for the Abe Lemons-Paul Hansen Award for Sports Excellence by Oklahoma City University.
Murcer signed with the Yankees out of Southeast High School and started and ended his career in New York. He also played for San Francisco and the Chicago Cubs.
He's spent the past 22 seasons as part of the Yankees broadcasting team.
The Lemons-Hansen Award is given to a person for significant contributions to the growth of sports in Oklahoma.
The award will be presented during a dinner April 30th at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum in Oklahoma City.
