EUREKA,Calif. (AP) _ An earthquake off the coast shook a rural area in northern California Monday morning.

There were no reports of damage or injury.

The magnitude-5.4 struck Monday at 4:20 a.m. about 38 miles west-southwest of Eureka, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

A dispatcher with the Humboldt County Sheriff's Department said the quake was felt at the department's station, but they had not received any reports of damage or injuries.
