The University of Tulsa women’s basketball team lost to the Rice Owls on Saturday 50-45.
Jillian Robbins lead the team with 14-points, 8-rebounds, 2-steals and a block. Jamie Dreiling also scored in the double digits adding 13 points; she also grabbed 5-rebounds, one steal and a block.
It was a low scoring first half due to a five-minute drought, but at the break Tulsa was leading by 4, 20-16. In the 2nd-half TU was up by 10, but the Owls went on a 22-7 run to win the game by 15.
Tulsa honored seniors Robbins, Tandem Mays and Chivis Merriweather prior to the game, and after the contest retired Robbins’ jersey. Robbins' holds the school record for points (2,035), rebounds (1,273), field goals (720), free throws (586), steals (336), blocked shots (244), and double-doubles (64), plus she's the only player in school history with a triple-double.
In her career at the University of Tulsa Robbins has earned Honorable Mention All-America honors, was named C-USA Player of the Year and Conference-USA Defensive Player of the Year. She was also selected as a three-time all-conference first team and two-time all-WAC defensive team performer, and has been named conference player of the week 13 times.
Tulsa fell to 10-16 on the season and 5-9 in Conference USA, while Rice moved to 16-11 and 9-5 in the league. The Hurricane returns to action on Thursday, against UTEP in El Paso, Texas. Game time is set for 8:05 p.m.
