STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) A man who allegedly tried to run down an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper in a stolen pickup is behind bars Saturday.
Patrol spokeswoman Kera Philippi says 25-year-old Christopher Tarbox was arrested without incident last night at his apartment on the Oklahoma State University campus in Stillwater.
Tarbox is being held without bond in the Payne County Jail.
Philippi says Tarbox apparently suffered a gunshot wound to the leg when Trooper Anthony Harper fired several shots at the pickup. A passenger in the pickup also was injured by flying debris. Philippi says both were treated and released from an area hospital.
Harper has been placed on routine administrative leave with pay while the shooting is being investigated.
Harper clocked the driver of a silver Dodge truck speeding in Cushing about 12:45 p.m. Thursday.
The driver turned down a county road with Harper in pursuit. After spotting the vehicle, Harper got out of his cruiser and tried to flag down the truck but the driver allegedly accelerated toward him.
Philippi says that's when Harper fired several shots at the pickup.
