WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) _ Four Oklahoma pitchers surrendered 14 hits as the Sooners fell 13-2 to South Carolina on Friday in the Hughes Bros. Challenge.
South Carolina (1-0) broke a 1-1 tie in the bottom of the 4th-inning, as the Gamecocks opened the inning with four straight hits off Oklahoma starter Joseph Hughes (0-1), including a solo home run by Phil Disher.
South Carolina added 4-more runs in the 5th, an outburst highlighted by a leadoff triple from Jon Willard and a RBI double by Justin Smoak.
Harris Honeycutt allowed 3-hits and 1-run while striking out 6-batters in 5-innings for the Gamecocks. Oklahoma (1-3) managed 6-hits off 4-South Carolina pitchers. Joe Dunigan went 2-3 with an RBI to lead the Sooners.
Trent Kline went 3-4 with 2-RBIs for South Carolina, with Lonnie Chisenhall, Willard and Disher adding 2-hits apiece.
The game was the first ever between Oklahoma and South Carolina. The Sooners will play tournament host North Carolina-Wilmington on Saturday, while the Gamecocks will face Western Kentucky.
