The Oklahoma Association of Broadcasters has elected the late Jim Giles into their Hall of Fame.

For 25 years, Jim Giles served as Chief Meteorologist at KOTV. He began his weather career as a commander of a U.S. Air Force weather station in Viet Nam. He also worked at the National Weather Service’s storm center in Kansas City, Missouri. Before coming to Tulsa, Jim worked at TV stations in the Dallas/Ft. Worth and Austin areas.

In 1986, Jim started ‘Giles’ Coats For Kids.’ The yearly effort provided over 200,000 coats to eastern Oklahomans in need.

He was also known for ‘Jim Giles’ Wild, Wild Weather Show.’ The springtime shows began in 1986 and went to almost every community in eastern Oklahoma, educating over 125,000 residents on severe weather.

Jim Giles died in December. He had retired as Chief Meteorologist in November.
