OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- An Oklahoma native who's a former NASA astronaut says he's shocked by the arrest of a fellow astronaut.
John Herrington of Wetumka says the charges against Lisa Nowak are not representative of the person he worked with.
Nowak is charged with attempted murder and attempted kidnapping of an Air Force captain in what police call a love triangle involving a space shuttle pilot.
Herrington and Nowak were classmates in the NASA astronaut class of 1996 and trained together and later worked together.
He calls Nowak a dedicated and hardworking person and says she didn't especially stick out.
Herrington is now vice president and director of flight systems for Oklahoma City-based Rocketplane Limited which is working to develop a vehicle for use in commercial space flights.
