HUGO, Okla. (AP) -- State officials are testing the water supply in Hugo Friday and water service could be restored as early as Friday afternoon.

The water system was shut down Thursday afternoon after the basement of the city's water plant was flooded and officials feared contamination.

Assistant City Manager Susan Hamby says there was construction near the water plant and the water may have been contaminated with some kind of oil on the floor of the treatment plant.

The National Guard and fire stations in Hugo have been providing residents with water.
