OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ A Poteau legislator says he'll call for creation of a joint task force to address persistent problems with Oklahoma's jails and prisons.

Senator Kenneth Corn says Oklahoma has one of the highest incarceration rates per capita in the country and has a crumbling infrastructure to house inmates and understaffing at the Department of Corrections.

Corn says the DOC for years has been dealing with a growing problem of overcrowding and bed shortages while struggling to maintain a sufficient work force.

He says it's time for the state Legislature to address the issue with a comprehensive plan.
