The Tulsa Fire Department picked a fine time to do some outdoor training. While most of us stayed indoors, fire crews practiced high line rope rescue techniques off the 31st Street Bridge.
The training involves cabling a rescue technician over a stranded victim, lowering them down to the water, and then moving them both to safety.
Tulsa Fire Captain Dannie Caldwell: “there's no such thing as safe ice in Oklahoma. Do not let your kids play on the ice. And kids if you're listening, do not play on the ice. It may look strong enough, but ice in Oklahoma is not capable of holding that weight."
The fire department says this type of training is important year round, but especially in winter, when bodies of water freeze.
